Is It God or my own thoughts? How to tell the difference in spiritual communication

Why this question matters

Miscommunication isn’t just about words—it’s about resonance. For many of us on a spiritual path, one of the biggest uncertainties is knowing whether that thought we just had is a whisper from God—or simply our own mind.

When thoughts are “air-dropped” from spirit

Sometimes a thought isn’t “yours” at all. It arrives suddenly, carrying a frequency that feels higher than your own. It might even come with a memory from a loved one who has passed or a knowing that couldn’t possibly originate from logic or inference.

A simple practice for clarity

When you feel uncertain, try this:

  1. Place your hand on your heart.

  2. Close your eyes.

  3. Ask with full attention: “God, was that You?”

Intention is everything. This pause allows you to recognize the subtle difference between thoughts that arise from within and those that are gifted from beyond.

Clearing the ego filter

Our ego sometimes shapes or distorts what we receive. This is why knowing thyself—your patterns, your filters, your inner voice—is such an essential part of spiritual practice. The clearer you are, the more easily you can recognize when Spirit is speaking.

You are a conduit of light

Beyond discerning thoughts, remember: you can be a conduit of prayer and light anywhere, anytime. Your energy, intention, and awareness ripple out into the collective—assisting not only your own journey, but the world around you.
