Are you using your intuition incorrectly?

Most of us think of intuition as a flash of knowing that arrives out of nowhere—a gut feeling, a hunch, or a sudden insight that seems to bypass logic. But what if that definition is too small?

When I first started studying intuition decades ago, I used the same understanding most people do: intuition is “knowing something without conscious reasoning.” That’s what the dictionary told me. Yet, after years of personal experience and teaching others to work with what I call the 11 Soul Senses, I began to realize that intuition isn’t about avoiding reason—it’s about engaging awareness.

What we get wrong about intuition

The idea that intuition excludes reason limits how we understand it. When we label it as something mysterious or beyond thought, we distance ourselves from its everyday usefulness. Intuition isn’t just a rare spark of insight—it’s a skill that can be developed, refined, and trusted when we learn how to work with it consciously.

The real meaning: to look at and consider

The word itself comes from the Latin intueri, meaning “to look at” or “to consider.” That root reveals something profound: intuition isn’t simply about knowing—it’s about paying attention. It invites us to pause and reflect on what’s happening, where the insight is coming from, and how it arrived.

Maybe you heard something inwardly (ClairAudience), saw an image (ClairVoyance), or simply felt a deep knowing (ClairCognizance). Each of these experiences is part of your intuitive system at work.

Building a relationship with your inner guidance

When we learn to honor both intuition and reasoning, we create a powerful partnership between soul and mind. It’s not about turning off logic—it’s about deepening perception so we can make choices aligned with both inner wisdom and outer understanding.

So the next time you get an intuitive hit, don’t just act on it. Pause and ask yourself: What am I being shown? Where is this coming from? What am I meant to do with it?

That simple act of consideration is what truly defines intuition.
