What is the Solar Plexus chakra?

The solar plexus chakra sits right in the midst of a nerve bundle between your heart and your navel—closer to your heart, right where the rib cage comes together and meets. You feel a lot of emotions there. And it is power packed. It holds sacred contracts relating to who you are and what you’ve come to do in this incarnation. When I work with the solar plexus, I realize how much it shapes your sense of self.

Where your personal power lives

The solar plexus is really about personal power, self-esteem, who you are, and what you came to do. It stores information about your personal power gathered from past lives, and it can be influenced by numerology, astrology, and life experience. It’s where your talents, your sense of self, and the overall view of what this life is about all come together.

Your chakras are supposed to be vibrant and whole—like lotus flowers, open. But experiences in our lives, whether past or present, can cause those petals to fold in on themselves. When I work with someone’s solar plexus, I look for what has happened and why.

The cost of living without inner authority

The solar plexus can be compromised by past life wounding, family legacy, or any kind of trauma—mental, emotional, spiritual, energetic, or sexual. These experiences get recorded there, and what results is a diminished sense of inner authority. The cost of living without that inner authority is vast.

You might develop a lack of personal boundaries. You might overwork, or not even know that you can set limits and live by them. You might become defined by others because you haven’t yet defined yourself. You might stay too long in places—relationships, jobs, situations—where you really don’t want to be. Depression, anxiety, and physical ailments can follow. And through all of it, there may be an inner script running: I’m not good enough. I couldn’t possibly. Things never work out for me. That’s the script worth examining. You can’t be who you want to be if you’re still wrapped up in who you don’t want to be.

How to start doing the work

One of the most important things you can do right now is allow yourself to feel your feelings. Notice when something doesn’t sit right. Notice the clear sensation moments—how something hits you vibrationally when you’re thinking about a project, a relationship, a next step. Your feelings are your first method of discovery.

Shine your light on what’s stored there in your solar plexus. You cannot be who you are meant to be until you stop being who you are not.
