What Is the Earth Chakra?

Traditionally, people work with seven energy centers in the body called the chakras. I work with additional ones outside the body; twelve total. The Earth chakra is one of those. It runs beneath the soles of your feet and has everything to do with your sense of survival, and with being tethered here, connected, grounded, and rooted to this very life.

What Is the Earth Chakra (and Why Is It Different from the Root)?

The first time I really started working with the Earth chakra, a client came to me feeling downtrodden; general malaise, nothing more specific than that. When I scanned her energy body, the Root chakra felt strong, and yet her legs had almost no energy. So, I moved to the soles of her feet and kept tuning in. A few feet off her body, I felt this pooled energy spiraling as a chakra; just like this pulse, at the edge of her auric field. That was the Earth chakra. When I shared what I was finding, the client confirmed it: her life was a struggle; she didn’t even want to be on the planet.

That's the distinction I want to make clear. The Root chakra is about food, shelter, clothing; basic needs being met. The Earth chakra is different. It's about your relationship here on the Earth and your connection to life itself. And it has a beautiful connection all the way up to the Divine chakra - the 12th - because when we understand that all life is sacred, we are part of that sacred circle of nature.
